Position Overview

The Director of Risk Management partners with other leaders in Quality, Compliance, and Legal to develop and implement a regional system of clinical risk management services aligned with MultiCare's mission. The Director oversees programs to control clinical risks associated with patient care, collaborating with patient safety specialists, advocates, and others to develop mitigation strategies for patient safety concerns and adverse outcomes. Hospital-based leaders may have a dual reporting structure.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Plan, develop, and implement a system-wide risk management program to identify and mitigate patient harm and other organizational risks.
  2. Identify and mitigate facility risks posing general liability exposure.
  3. Partner with Quality Leadership to oversee and promote the system Communication and Resolution program.
  4. Create and ensure thorough risk event investigations, patient communications, and documentation.
  5. Develop and implement clinical risk management consulting services.
  6. Foster strong working relationships between local risk management and other departments, including legal, quality, accreditation, patient safety, patient advocacy, business units, medical staff, compliance, privacy, and civil rights.
  7. Coordinate with the VP of Risk to develop and deliver medical malpractice prevention and patient safety education programs.
  8. Lead the system-wide Risk Management teams.
  9. Work with Claims Managers to respond to litigation, including document gathering, witness scheduling, and related tasks.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or related field.
  • Master's Degree in Business Administration, Juris Doctorate, or a related advanced degree preferred.
  • At least 8 years of risk management experience, including 3 years in professional liability.
  • Minimum of 5 years in managerial or supervisory roles.
