Hamilton, New Zealand | Sunday, 13 April 2025 — The Bengali New Year 1432 was celebrated with great enthusiasm and vibrant festivities at the PA Auditorium of the University of Waikato. The event was organized by the Waikato Bangladeshi Students Association (WBSA). With the spontaneous participation of Bangladeshi students and community members living in New Zealand, the event turned into a lively cultural festival.
The day-long celebration featured traditional Bengali songs and dance performances, face painting, henna art, and delicious Bengali food.
Dressed in colorful traditional attire, attendees warmly welcomed the new year in a joyful and cheerful atmosphere. The entire event beautifully showcased the essence of Bangladeshi culture, heritage, and unity.
The event was presided over by Nur Islam Nur, President of the Waikato Bangladeshi Students Association. Key contributors to the planning and success of the event included Dr. Dalour Hossain Beg, Dr. Laila Arjuman Ara, S. M. Didarul Abedin, Md. Zahidul Islam, Nazia Setu, Munaz Jahan, Rotarian Sabina Yesmin, Robiul Islam Shanto, Mahmud, Saleh, Ameera, Tahmid, among others.
Special guests included BANZI President Mehedi Hasan Khan Chowdhury, Shayra Alam Priyanka, and BCWI President Khaled Bin Murad, Vice President Sanjay Saha, and General Secretary Emran Khan. The collective efforts of the dedicated WBSA members ensured the event’s success.
In his closing remarks, Nur Islam Nur said, “Even while living abroad, we have preserved our culture and traditions—this event is a reflection of that. It has added a new dimension to the bond among us.”
The event concluded with heartfelt thanks to all participants, guests, and organizers, along with warm wishes for the new year and prayers for a prosperous future for Bangladesh.
